On December 23, 1958 (Showa 33), Tokyo Tower was completed in Shiba Park, Tokyo, and a completion ceremony was held.
This day is also known as "Tokyo Tower Day."

At 333m high (351m above sea level), it was 21m taller than the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France at 312m, making it the tallest structure in the world at the time.

Tokyo Tower's official name is "Japan Radio Tower" and it is a symbol and tourist attraction of Tokyo.
It will remain the tallest free-standing steel tower in Japan until it is surpassed by Tokyo Skytree, which was completed on February 29, 2012.
