All permits were obtained for filming.
Sakaiura Beach, a major snorkeling spot on Chichijima
It is also a famous tourist spot where you can see World War II relics and the sunken ships of military supplies up close.
The Hinko Maru is stranded just a few dozen meters from the shoreline.
There are few places in the world where you can experience a war site by snorkeling off the beach.
A hidden gem just 10 minutes from the city
It's less than a 10-minute bus ride along the main street of the city towards Xiaogang.
After passing through a residential area, going up a hill and going through a tunnel, the view of Sakaiura Beach will spread out before you on your right.
Sunken Ship: Hamaemaru
Brown lumps that don't fit in well with the white sand of the Blue Lagoon can be seen scattered a few dozen meters offshore.
That ship is the Hinko Maru, a munitions transport that was torpedoed in the latter stages of World War II, rendering it unable to sail and stranded in its current location.
The shape of a ship was once clearly recognizable, but more than 70 years have passed since it ran aground in 1944, and it has decayed to the point that it would be unrecognizable if you weren't told.
