What is Habushiura Observatory?
The popular viewpoint overlooking Habushiura Coast is the only one on Niijima that has been certified as one of the "New Tokyo 100 Views." It is located at the northern end of the coastline, about a 5-minute drive from the main gate, on the old road just before the Heisei Niijima Tunnel heading to the Wakago area. Next to the parking lot is a wooden observation deck about 20 meters high. When you go up to the top, you will be impressed by the grandeur of the panorama of the pure white coastline that continues all the way to the distant "Shiromama Cliff" and the sparkling blue horizon. Offshore, you can see the uninhabited island of Hayashima, about 500 meters away from Niijima. On a clear day, you can sometimes see Miyakejima in the distance. Behind the observation deck stands Miyazukayama, 432 meters above sea level, and right next to it you can see Habushiura Fishing Port. When the wind is strong, be careful not to let your hat or sunglasses fly away from the deck.
It is also a famous sunrise point.

Niijima is an island located about 160km south of Tokyo. It is a popular tourist spot for surfers and beachgoers, as it has beautiful sea and sandy beaches, even among the Izu Islands. It is also a popular spot for divers, as you can see bottlenose dolphins, sperm whales, humpback whales, manta rays, and sea turtles in the nearby waters.
