About 200 rice paddies of various sizes spread out on the slope like fish scales, and the Hoshitoge rice terraces, which show different faces throughout the seasons and in the morning, afternoon and evening, are the most popular of the rice terrace spots scattered around Tokamachi City. During the best season, when the sea of clouds appears and the water reflects light, many photographers and tourists from all over the country visit the area to take in the beautiful scenery. In 2022, the area was certified as a "Connecting Rice Terrace Heritage" by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.
