Shasui Falls, which flows down from the Takizawa River, a tributary of the Sakagawa River, is a famous waterfall that has been selected as one of the "100 Best Waterfalls in Japan," and its water is also one of the "100 Best Waters in Japan."
The name "Shasui" is a term from esoteric Buddhism that refers to the pouring of perfume in prayer for purity. The majestic waterfall consists of three tiers, with the first waterfall dropping 69m, the second waterfall dropping 16m, and the third waterfall dropping 29m. It has long been considered the No. 1 waterfall in Sagami Province, and is recorded as "Hebi-sui no Taki" (Hebi-sui Falls) in the "Shinpen Sagami no Kuni Fudoki-go."

(The waterfall you can see from the red bridge is Ichinotaki. The two waterfalls, Ninotaki and Sannotaki, are located upstream.)

This waterfall is also known as the place where the famous Kamakura period monk Munkaku performed the ascetic practice of showering himself under the waterfall for 100 days, and nearby is Taki Fudoson (Acala "Anafudo"), which is said to have been enshrined by Munkaku.
