The charm of Dogashima! The best spot to see the sunset in Japan
Dogashima is known as a scenic spot on the Izu Peninsula. Standing here, you can understand how great and unique the artist called nature is. Dogashima is lined with a variety of strange rock formations and scenic spots, and there are many spectacular spots such as Tenmado Cave, Sanshiro Island, and Tombolo.
When you look out to sea, you will be greeted by islands and rocks with strange shapes, and you can enjoy an adventurous little boat trip between them. The sunset over Suruga Bay is so beautiful that it will leave you speechless.
Sanshiro Island
Sanshiro Islands are made up of four islands, Denbei Island, Nakano Island, Okinose Island, and Takashima Island, located about 200 meters offshore, and are so named because they can appear to be three or four islands depending on the angle from which they are viewed. They were designated a prefectural natural monument in 1983.
Tombolo phenomenon
At low tide, shallow currents appear all the way to Denbeijima, the nearest island, allowing people to wade across without getting their feet wet. This phenomenon is called "Tombolo" and is extremely rare even in Japan.
Golden Cape
Cape Koganezaki, whose rock surface shines golden in the setting sun, is a scenic spot known for its magnificent views of Suruga Bay and Mt. Fuji, as well as the beauty of the sunset. The entire cape is a park, with a grassy promenade, an observation deck, and more. In the collection garden, daylilies, poppies, rape blossoms, and more bloom in abundance from spring to autumn.
Tenmado Cave
Tenmado Cave, Dogashima's greatest attraction, is made of white tuff, and beneath it is a sea-eroded tunnel that resembles a beehive. A band of light shines through the dark cave from the ceiling down to the sea surface, creating a mystical sight. Tenmado Cave is located on the Dogashima Promenade, and can be seen from above.
