The westernmost point of Japan is Yonaguni Island in the Yaeyama Islands of Okinawa Prefecture. It is located at 24 degrees 27 minutes north latitude and 122 degrees 56 minutes east longitude, and is closer to Taiwan than the main island of Okinawa.
Irizaki, at the westernmost point of the island, is surrounded by cliffs over 50 meters high, and is the last place in Japan to see the sunset.
Apparently, you can see Taiwan in the distance a few times a year.
