[Tokyo Tower Trivia]
Tokyo Tower is a comprehensive radio tower located in Shiba Park, Minato Ward, Tokyo.
It is also known as the Japanese Radio Tower.
Completed on December 23, 1958 (Showa 33), it has become a symbol of Tokyo and a tourist attraction.
Winner of the 2018 Good Design Award
It was founded by Maeda Hisayoshi and designed by Naito Tanada, also known as Japan's "Tower Doctor."
Its height is advertised as 333 metres, which is 351 metres above sea level.
The distance between the tower legs based on the center of each leg is 88.0 meters.
The total construction cost approximately 3 billion yen, took a year and a half (1,974,015 hours/543 days), and required a total of 219,335 workers to complete.
It is a truss structure radio tower with observation decks at 125 meters above ground (approximately 150 meters above sea level) and 223.55 meters above sea level (approximately 250 meters above sea level).

As a daytime obstacle marking, it is painted in alternating yellow-red (international orange) and white from the top.
It transmits broadcast signals as a television and FM radio antenna, and also transmits emergency signals as a protective radio antenna for East Japan Railway Company (JR East Japan), and is also home to various measuring instruments for the Tokyo Metropolitan Government's Bureau of Environment.
When it was first completed, it was the tallest structure in Japan, but the record for the tallest structure in Japan was set on June 26, 1968, when the Ogasawara Islands
It took about nine and a half years for the Loran Tower on Minamitorishima Island and the Loran Tower on Iwo Jima to be overtaken by the Omega Tower on Tsushima Island (Nagasaki Prefecture) after it was returned to Japan.
It took approximately 11 years from its demolition until it was overtaken by Tokyo Skytree.
If we limit it to free-standing steel towers, it will remain the tallest in Japan for approximately 51 and a half years, until it is surpassed by Tokyo Skytree.
As of 2020, it is the second tallest structure in Japan after Tokyo Skytree.
It weighs approximately 4,000 tons!
